Projects

Spectrum Music

Group and individual music sessions for children aged 5-18 with autism/ neurodiversity, or needs that present in a way that require a specific participant-led approach.

Spectrum Music was developed in 2013, following a conversation with a parent who couldn’t find a suitable music group for her son.

This project is at all times responsive to the needs of our participants: sessions can vary from highly-structured to completely improvisatory, with participants supported by our highly-specialised music practitioners.

Sessions run on weekdays in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Spectrum Music is supported by Creative Scotland’s  Youth Music Initiative- Access to Music Making fund.

Spectrum Transitions

Group and individual music sessions for young adults aged 17-25 with autism/neurodiversity or other complex needs, transitioning from childrens’ to adult services. This project provides a pathway for many of our Spectrum Music participants, and was developed in direct consultation with young people and their families as they reached the point in their lives when leaving school and/or transitioning to adult services.

Spectrum Transitions is supported by the National Lottery Young Start programme.

Adult Classes

Group music sessions for adults with additional support needs and their carers/family members. Each group has 9 participants who attend with a support assistance/family member. The groups work in partnership with other charities and organisations such as MUSAC (West Lothian), South Lanarkshire Lifestyles, Richmond Fellowship and Cosgrove Care.

Our Glasgow and South Lanarshire projects are supported by the National Lottery Awards for All fund.

Schools Projects

School inclusion projects

We invite pupils from mainstream classes to be included in a creative process that takes place in a ASN school. Pupils work together to create and develop pieces of music over a period of time, with the creative control lying with the pupils who can traditionally face barriers in being heard/listened to. The result is magical: relationships are formed through music-making, discoveries are made through peers, and connections are made that last far beyond the length of the project.

School projects

Similar to our after-school sessions, we provide group and individual music sessions for pupils during the school day, responsive to their specific needs and interests. We incorporate learning and development from these sessions into feedback for teachers/support staff.
